Many councils across Australia have cruelly and significantly reduced the value of 1000‘s of properties by deeming large residential and commercial areas at risk of being “flood prone”. The information councils use to determine these findings is thought by many to be flawed, and far from a proven science. Some may consider that limiting liability is a primary motive.

It seems that during these studies, most councils received no arguments from their communities regarding this matter, probably because:

1. The community was not fully aware of the studies
   

2. The community was complacent
   

3. The effect of the studies were not understood
   

4. There was no coordinated responses from residents
   

We consider Shire Floodwatch is one of the only community groups rallying together to argue against this probably pointless, wasteful and extremely damaging issue.
